Richard Geruson was CEO of the Fortune 500 company Lexmark, the firmware pioneer Phoenix Technologies, and the AI startup VoiceSignal, which invented voice recognition for mobile phones. He also was Senior Vice President at Nokia, Vice President at IBM and Toshiba, and an executive at McKinsey & Co. He has served on 32 boards and 46 advisory boards.
Geruson holds three graduate degrees from Oxford University, including a doctorate. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard Business School and earned a master of religion in public life degree from Harvard Divinity School. He is the author of A Theory of Market Strategy (Oxford University Press), which is listed in university syllabi and adopted in business-school curricula worldwide. Other publications include “AI Harms Are Not Ethically Inevitable,” Harvard Divinity Bulletin 53 (3–4, Autumn/Winter 2025).
He currently serves on the Leadership and Business Ethics Council of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics in Silicon Valley. He delivered the keynote address at the CEO Alliance Summit, and was a CEO Mentor at the Alchemist Accelerator. He received a Finnigan Fellowship from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Gundaker Fellowship for research at Oxford. He previously served as Board Director of both the Marlboro Symphony Orchestra and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Middlesex County.
